Dr. Karen Frances McCarthy

Features

Karen Frances McCarthy PhD CSNU is an Irish Spiritualist medium, teacher, and author based in New York. She began her training with Rev. Janet Nohavec and continued at the Arthur Findlay College in England. She holds three Certificates of Recognition from its governing body, the Spiritualists’ National Union, in mediumship, spiritual healing, and public speaking, and serves The Journey Within through services, talks, and classes.

Karen came to Spiritualism after the sudden death of her fiancé, an experience she wrote about in her bestselling memoir, Till Death Don’t Us Part (White Crow Books, 2020). Her background as a writer, shaped by the Irish culture of storytelling, gives her mediumship a natural ear for character. She meets your loved one as the unique person they were: their voice, their habits, their way of being in the world. In a sitting, she gives them room to share what matters to them, so you can spend time with someone you love again and hear what they want you to know.

She is the author of four books, including Still Here (White Crow Books, 2027) and The Re-enchanted Ghost in Contemporary American Fiction (Routledge, 2026), based on her doctoral research at the University of Birmingham in the UK. She teaches mediumship in private classes and with Humanity’s Team, mysticism and Irish mythology with The Shift Network, and spectral and speculative fiction at New York University SPS.

Karen offers private sittings and mentoring via Zoom. To learn more, please visit www.karenfrancesmccarthy.com
